84% Cabernet Sauvignon
Selena by Marianne is a new addition to the Marianne range in 2011. We are extremely proud of the results we have achieved with this young wine made to be consumed within 3 to 4 years. While we use only Marianne Estate fruit, the winemaking process for Selena is very different. We still handpicked the grapes at phenolic ripeness but substitute steel tanks for the wooden fermenters. Fermentation takes place over a period of 2 to 4 days, following which maceration in the tank is limited to two weeks.
The wine was aged for 1 year only in 100% second fill French barrels. This limited use of oak has yielded a fantastic every day wine that is easy drinking and youthful but remains true to the Estate's distinctive style. the wine has maximum character and flavor with great ageing potential.
Medium-bodied and fruity. Selena is an easier drinking little sister to our Cape Blend. The characteristics of the Marianne clay-driven terroir come through in a lighter styled wine. Red berries on the nose, straight tannins for a youthful red blend experience.
Everyday drinking wine. To be enjoyed on its own or paired with a light dinner. Pastas, light meats.
