At Marianne we are privileged to have two state of the art boutique wineries, each perfectly equipped to elaborate fine, hand crafted wines. Influenced by our French heritage and international savoir-faire, we strive to make French style wines with a touch of South African vibes. At Marianne we believe in natural, minimal intervention winemaking, with the firm believe that the secret to a great wine lies in the vineyard and in the beautiful landscape that surrounds it.
Marianne is an exclusive member of Wine Paths' most renowned wineries in South Africa.
Situated high up against Simonsberg a perfect terroir is guaranteed to produce premium grapes. All aspects of the terroir are managed to the ultimate to ensure top quality grapes. With our well balanced mineral rich soils we produce grapes with high complexity. We grow our grapes biologically with an organic approach working with nature and not against it. We believe our wines are grown in the vineyards and perfected in the cellar.
We have a small staff of six well trained guys under the leadership of our experienced Viticulturist Jos van Wyk. The vineyards are groomed to perfection to have well balanced vineyards to ensure premium grapes. The newest technology is used to optimize all our natural resources to the fullest to ensure optimal ripeness and lots of complexity in our berries.
Vineyards and grapes are our passion and this is you will taste in your wines.
The red wines are crafted at Marianne cellar, a gravity fed cellar with wooden fermentation and open top stainless steal tanks. The grapes are handpicked into shallow crates, after which they are bunch and berry sorted before being crushed into the open top fermentation tanks, allowing for beautiful color and elegant tannin extraction. After natural fermentation and soft extraction, the ageing of red wines takes place in exclusively French oak barrels, specially selected for Marianne style wines.
White and Rosé wines are crafted in our petit boutique L’ermitage cellar, where fermentation and ageing of white wines take place in 500 L Acacia and 225 L French oak barrels. Allowing us to harvest the same block in different times to ensure that grapes are picked at optimal ripeness. Battonage (stirring of the lees) follows during fermentation and ageing to ensure that fruit aromas are protected in the wine and that the palete develops to have a beautiful roundness.
